Deepika Padukone & Akshay Kumar - China Calling
Akshay Kumar’s next flick Chandni Chowk to China’s trailor has already hit the theatres. While Akshay is looking really cool in his new get up, Deepika Padukone is also looking great as a Chinese girl. But getting that slanted look of a Chinese girl was not a piece of cake.
When contacted, Deepika said, “I don’t know how or why Nikhil Advani thought of a South Indian like me with big eyes to play a Chinese. I play half-Chinese and half-Indian in the film. And to get my eyes to look less big and rounded and more slanted, some special make-up artistes were brought in. They suggested I stick tapes around my eyes.”
Deepika then consulted her doctors. “And they cut the idea down in time. My doctors said if I stick those tapes on my eyes for 12 hours a day, the shape of my eyes would change forever. So, instead, we got my make-up artiste Mallika Bhatt to do my eye make-up in such a way that my eyes looked slanting,” added Deepika.
Interestingly, Deepika plays her second double role in Chandni Chowk… (One of a Chinese and the other of an Indian) after Om Shanti Om. She said, “Yes, two of my three roles so far are double roles. It just gives me that much more confidence as an actor to know that directors think I can carry off a completely Indian and a Chinese look in the same film.”
Chandni Chowk To China is said to be inspired from the life and struggle of Akshay Kumar. He plays the role of a cook in the film too. Source
