Salman Khan’s most awaited film ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ might have received mixed response from critics, but the Kabir Khan film has kept the Box Office ringing since its release.

Produced by Yash Raj Films, ETT has been shot at expensive locales spread across 5 countries. The Rs 75 crore budget film has reportedly made a business of Rs 32 crore on the first day itself!

Early morning, on August 15, Salman Khan’s sister had tweeted: “The TIGER has arrived! Congratulation & all the best to the whole team of Ek Tha Tiger! You’ll have to break all records!”

Well, she was indeed right, as on the first day itself the film broke many records. Soon after the clock strike 9:30 am on Independence Day, crowd lined up in front of the ticket-window. Some were lucky, while some left disappointed, as getting the ticket of this much-anticipated blockbuster wasn’t an easy task for anyone.

Buzz says that it was indeed a lucky day for black marketers as sources say that a ticket that usually costs around Rs 90 was being sold for as much as Rs 750. Incidentally, the last time black marketers had a ball was during Dabangg when each ticket sold for as much as Rs 450. And hence, Salman broke the record of his own film.

Kareena Kapoor’s upcoming movie “Heroine” will release in September. The movie by Madhur Bhandarkar will show the real act of Kareena Kapoor.

Thousands of grieving supporters and family on Wednesday bade a tearful adieu to Union minister Vilasrao Deshmukh whose mortal remains were consigned to flames at his native Babhalgaon village from where he began his political journey as an obscure sarpanch four decades ago.

A sea of humanity, including hundreds of moist-eyed women, converged here, on the outskirts of district town of Latur, for the last glimpse of the illustrious son of the soil who rose in their midst to stride the corridors of power in Mumbai and Delhi.

“I am feeling very sorry. I have known Vilasrao Deshmukh for years. Riteish is a close friend of mine, I spoke to him,” Shah Rukh Khan told reporters here at an event.

“I am very sad. It is unexpected. He was a wonderful gentleman apart from being the Chief Minister. I am deeply disturbed. I am very sorry to hear this… my respects to the family,” SRK added.

The last rites were performed by Deshmukh’s eldest son and Latur town MLA Amit at a family farm close to where his father Dagdojirao Deshmukh was cremated.

Deshmukh, 67, died yesterday at Chennai’s Global Hospital from serious liver ailment, a week after he was flown in an air ambulance from Mumbai in a critical condition.

Earlier, a solemn-looking Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi placed wreaths on the casket carrying the body of Deshmukh, state’s tallest Congress leader and twice chief minister, at Dayanand Vidyalaya where it lay in state for public to pay their last respects.

Gandhi walked up to Deshmukh’s widow Vaishali, who fought back tears, and held her in comforting embrace as the Prime Minister offered his condolences to the departed leader’s son Amit. Deshmukh’s teary-eyed family members, including his wife, actor son Riteish and Dheeraj, acknowledged with gratitude the condolences with folded hands.

Actress Raveena Tandon reached out to both Riteish and his actress wife Genelia D’Souza on twitter. “Rest In Peace Vilasrao Deshmukh. Condolences to the bereaved family, @Riteishd and @geneliad, words cannot express the shock nd grief we are feeling,” she wrote.

Veteran actress Shabana Azmi offered her condolences, saying he was too young to die. “Vilasrao Deshmukh no more. Too young to die. As CM he gave Nivara a lot of support for our slum rehabilitation project. Condolences to the family.”

Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt is angry with the current trend of Rs.100 crore films because he feels it overshadows successful small budget movies.

“The tragedy of our times is that we have become so greedy that we are not satisfied with anything less than the number one spot. That’s why we tell our athletes that you have lost the gold instead of saying you have won a silver,” the 63-year-old said Tuesday in an interview.

“Similarly, we salute only those films that do a business of Rs 100 crore or Rs 200 crore. We don’t praise a film that does good business within it’s category,” he added.

Bhatt is known for making small-budget movies with new talents such as ‘Murder’, ‘Raaz’ and ‘Jism’.

Right now he is looking forward to ‘Raaz 3′ which has Bipasha Basu in the lead role, and says only she could have done full justice to the role.

“I think Bipasha has the hunger to stay on top now. She is refusing to concede this place to anybody and when you see her performance in ‘Raaz 3′, you’ll find it for yourself that she has given the kind of conviction and the kind of emotional depth which only she could have given,” he said.

‘Raaz 3′ marks Bipasha’s return to Bhatt camp after 10 years.

‘Raaz 3′ also stars Esha Gupta, and Bhatt said that she debuted with ‘Jannat 2′ “but could not make the impact that a newcomer normally makes in a debut film.”
