Bollywood actress Vidya Balan and ‘Life of Pi’ director Ang Lee are part of the prestigious 66th Cannes Film Festival’s nine-member jury, headed by Hollywood director Steven Spielberg.Other big names joining Spielberg and Vidya are Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman, Oscar-winner Christoph Waltz, Japanese director Naomi Kawase, Scottish director Lynne Ramsay, French actor-director Daniel Auteuil and Romanian director Cristian Mungiu.

She may have been a part of the film industry for 12 years but Bipasha Basu feels that there are hardly any scripts that offer meaty roles to the heroines. Except Vidya Balan, as Bipasha Basu points out.

She doesn’t understand the tendency as to why they never provide an actress a role which can boast of great caliber. However, she kept Vidya Balan as an exception here. “With an exception of Vidya Balan, I don’t know if any actress or any of my contemporaries who can boast of great films they have done. It could be a Rs 100 crore film but I don’t know what content there is for a girl to do,” said Bipasha who is promoting her upcoming horror film Aatma these days.

Speaking on the subject of her upcoming film Aatma opposite Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Bipasha said, “I think each of us are talented but we don’t have projects to showcase our talent. So if a horror film is giving me that platform, why should I not take up the project? We write really bad roles for women.”

Bipasha, who recently was titled as the horror film specialist says she has been getting too many horror film offers lately. “I get an offer of ten horror films per week. May be I should become a horror specialist. I need to do something new soon.”

Now check this out. Vidya Balan and Deepika Padukone are all set to share screen space in noted cinematographer and Tamil filmmaker Rajiv Menon’s next, a biopic on MS Subbulakshmi, a legendary Carnatic singer. Now this is one solid combination!!!

Vidya will essay the role of MS Subbulakshmi, Deepika Padukone is said to play Vidya’s sister, Bala.Rajiv Menon, who is known to be a big fan of Deepika is keen to work with her and so he will ensure that she is not sidelined by Vidya and that both will get meaty roles.
Hmmm, so looks like it will be the beginning of a new friendship in B-town.

Vidya is known to share a very nice relationship with all her co-stars and so is Deepika. Both the actresses have never been known to have thrown starry tantrums. So we are sure there wouldn’t be any kind of ego-tussle between the two.

Initially, rumors had it that Aishwarya Rai would be playing the role of MS Subbulakshmi. But, Aish rejected the offer as she felt that the movie did not have the elements of a mainstream Bollywood movie, as it is more of an art film.

Menon is really keen to work with DeePee and has therefore brought her on board. However, neither Deepika nr the makers of the film have made any official announcement about the same.

Vidya Balan, who had put on 12 kilos to essay the role of Silk in The Dirty Picture, is now working hard to get back in shape for her next film Shaadi Ke Side Effects with Farhan Aakhtar.

Vidya, who has been sweeping almost all major awards, is known for being pleasantly plump and being proud of her fuller body.The latest we hear, she’s already lost 9.5 kg in less than five weeks and she has to lose 2.5 kilos more for the role.Vidya has 20 days to get to the desired shape, she’s going in for a strict exercise and diet regime to shed the weight.
The actor plays Farhan’s wife in the film. The actors are joined by an ensemble cast of stand-up comedian Vir Das, actor Ram Kapoor and his wife Gautami, singer-actress Ila Arun and legendary singer Hariharan, who plays Farhan’s father in the film.

The story of the sequel focusses on iconic characters, Sid and Trisha, played by Rahul Bose and Mallika Sherawat respectively, in the sequel. Sid and Trisha will now be seen as husband and wife. Now they must address themselves to the impossible task of coping with each other’s fantasies and realities.

Meanwhile, Farhan has chopped off the long tresses that he had to maintain for his role in Bhag Milkha Bhag.

The romantic comedy will go on the floors Feb 17, and will hit theatres Dec 6.

Vidya Balan certainly started this year on a high note by being nominated and winning various awards for her performances in Kahaani and The Dirty Picture. Now, we hear that the actress is all set for her next, which will be a biopic based on Carnatic classical singer MS Subbulakshmi.

Though Vidya already has a slew of films lined up for 2013 starting with Rajkumar Gupta’s Ghanchakkar, followed by Shaadi Ke Side Effects ending with either Sujoy Ghosh’s sequel to Kahaani or this biopic.

While details of the film are yet unavailable, the film that will be directed by Rajiv Menon is said to be a lavish musical. Interestingly this year, we will see two other actors, Priyanka Chopra, Ranbir Kapoor and Farhan Akhtar, also featuring in biopics. While Priyanka’s is based on the Olympic pugilist Mary Kom, Ranbir Kapoor will be working on a Kishore Kumar biopic with Anurag Basu while Farhan Akhtar takes on Indian sprinter Milkha Singh in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.

Vidya Balan, who has made us restless to clap for her in her each and every performances. She has been giving her best in Bollywood and proving everyone that films can be a super hit even if there is no Male star cast in it.

The last big wedding of this year has taken place with Bollywood actor Vidya Balan getting married to UTV CEO Siddharth Roy Kapur in South Indian and Punjabi traditions. The wedding took place at the well-decorated Green Mile bungalow in Bandra, contrary to earlier reports of a temple wedding in Chembur.

The wedding rituals went on for over an hour at Green Mile Bungalow in the presence of family members of the bride and groom.

Pretty bride Vidya wore a bright red south Indian silk saree with heavy gold ornaments while posing for photographers after the wedding. She was also wearing Punjabi-style chooda (wedding bangles) in her hands. Siddharth wore a yellow embroidered kurta. The food served was South Indian.

The 34-year-old Bollywood actor underwent three changes in costume during the wedding ceremony, one of them being a mustard saree with a pink blouse, matching the groom’s yellow kurta and pink turban.

Chairman and Managing Director of Tips Kumar Taurani tweeted this morning: “Congratulations to Siddharth Roy Kapoor & Vidya Balan…… God Bless Newly Wedded Couple”.
