Rock On, which was one of the movie which changed the way of movie making in B-Town. The movie released in 2008 directed by Farhan Akhtar, so they are back again to rock on.
Abhishek Kapoor, wrapping up the shoot of Kai Po Che, inspired by Chetan Bhagat’s The 3 Mistakes Of My Life, recently said: “We are working on the script of Rock On!! 2 right now. It will have the same team with some new characters coming in. I am happy and excited about it, hopefully by next year it will go on floors.”
The original stars, Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal and Purab Kohli continue to play their respective characters in the sequel of the tumultuous friendship drama involving four rock band members. This time, Sharman Joshi could be joining them.
So lets see what happens this time. Will they rock the silver screen again.
The makers of the 2006 film, PYAAR KE SIDE EFFECTS have roped in Vidya Balan and Farhan Akhtar for the sequel titled SHAADI KE SIDE EFFECTS.
The romantic-comedy will see the actors essaying the role of a married couple who are coping with their issues, much on the comic lines of the first film.
Talking about the plot says producer Pritish Nandy, ”Vidya will be playing a Delhi girl and Farhan a Bombay boy. The story moves ahead from where Trisha and Sid’s characters (PYAAR KE SIDE EFFECTS) left. They get married and the changes that come in their married life, the transformation in their relationship and how they tackle these changes.”
Adding that, ”Farhan Akhtar and Vidya Balan are the two most successful actors of 2011. We are privileged to have them as the stars of SHAADI KE SIDE EFFECTS and that is why I think this film tops our calendar for the coming year. My belief is that SHAADI KE SIDE EFFECTS has the ability to be 2012′s most exciting film, wild, wicked and wonderfully, wonderfully entertaining. Mars VS Venus at its best.” More
Producer Pritish Nandy has roped in Vidya Balan and Farhan Akhtar for “Shaadi Ke Side Effects”, a sequel to 2006 hit film “Pyaar Ke Side Effects”. He says a fresh pair was needed for the romantic comedy and that filming would start at the year-end.
“We were working on the script. We do everything in the end. Most people get things done quickly later it is delayed. The film will go on the floors by the year-end and is scheduled to release next year,” Nandy told IANS.
” ‘Shaadi Ke Side Effects’ is a romcom. Vidya will be playing a Delhi girl and Farhan will be playing a Bombay boy,” he added.
Produced under the banner of Pritish Nandy Communications, Pyaar Ke Side Effects was the directorial debut of Saket Chaudhary. Audiences not only enjoyed the film, but also liked the unusual pairing of Rahul Bose and Mallika Sherawat and their on-screen chemistry.
Saket Chaudhary will wield the megaphone for the sequel too. More
After watching Delhi 6, one could not help but praise Rakesh Omprakash Mehra for capturing Old Delhi in a brilliant manner (don’t want to comment about the overall movie though). And if all goes as intended, Rakesh Omprakash Mehra will capture the border of Pakistan, and will shoot for his upcoming movie, the Farhan Akhtar starrer Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, there.
It’s a known fact that Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is a biopic on the legendary Indian athlete Milkha Singh, who was born in Pakistan and later came to India along with other refugees, after losing his parents during the partition.
Meanwhile, the crew of the film feels that the film can be shot in India itself since there is not much of a topographical difference between India and Pakistan! Nevertheless, Rakesh is eager to shoot Bhaag Milkha Bhaag in Pakistan so as to maintain the originality factor and will soon apply for the permissions.
Anyhow, if Rakesh Omprakash Mehra is really serious about getting the location right, Farhan Akhtar, too, is considerate to get the right look for Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. At all the public appearances he has made recently, Farhan has been seen with a grown beard and somewhat longer hair! Source
The awards season has started and with it returns the debate whether they are genuine or rigged. Actor-director Farhan Akhtar believes attending an award function is a proof that you do believe in their authenticity.
“When you attend awards every year, it is proof enough that you do believe in the people who are in the jury or the audience. So I attend with the belief that it is a fair system. If I didn’t, I would have not attended,” the 38-year-old said at an event here.
Farhan’s directorial venture “Don 2: The King is Back” and his sister Zoya’s “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara” are in the fray for the Filmare Best Film award. Farhan produced both “Don 2″ as well as “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara”. Source
The ‘Bodyguard’ of choice for the whole of Bollywood is Salman Khan. His sister Alvira even famously tweeted – ‘Even a Superhero needs a Bodyguard’ (poking fun at RA.ONE’s debacle). But at a recent party thrown by Farhan Akhtar, the lovely Katrina, whilst making a quick exit, was mobbed by a crowd leaving her helpless and stranded. All of a sudden, someone from the party came out and took her to safety. Interestingly, it was none other than Farhan Akhtar himself as he was caught on channel Zoom’s camera.
Looks like Salman has some serious competition in his ‘Bodyguard-of-Choice’ status in Bollywood. Source
This man came in limelight and never looked back after his first directorial venture DIL CHAHTA HAI. Star-kid Farhan Akhtar proved his competence to enter Bollywood. But that was not all; he continued to charm the audience with his singing and acting proficiencies as well. Farhan made his acting debut with ROCK ON and even rendered his voice for the film’s songs. Not surprisingly, the songs became popular and his unique voice texture was admired and his acting skills bought him another super hit film ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA. Today, Farhan is an established multi-talented face of the industry. His latest successful project as a director has been DON 2.
Farhan Akhtar keeps great bond with all the stars with whom he had associated in films in the past. And that was witnessed when he recently hosted a birthday party. Farhan’s birthday is on January 9, 2012. Bollywood celebrities like Shahrukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif, Arjun Rampal, Arbaaz Khan, Karan Johar, Abhay Deol and many others were present at the party. Source
With the kind of sustained success that DON 2 has seen for itself, what with 100 crore all set to be in its kitty within two weeks flat, Farhan Akhtar and his partner Ritesh Sidhwani have ended 2012 on a high, what with ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA (which had released last year) being acknowledged as a superhit too. With GAME as their only flop and the other two biggies hitting the bull’s eye, the makers are indeed happy with the way their productions have shaped up.
”Yes, ZINDAGI NAA MILEGI DOBARA grew from strength to strength while DON 2 has showcased all over again that the story/setting by itself and the character have been loved for so many years now,’ smiles Farhan, ‘It is an advantageous situation to be in. In fact I remember how during the promotion of ZINDAGI NAA…. I was asked questions around DON 2. Now it was pretty much a deja vu moment because during the promotion of DON 2, people had been enquiring around TALAASH.”
Seems Farhan is indeed happy to push the boundaries and in the process fetch good compliments for himself, what with DON 2 being a very good example of how a Bollywood film has come closer to his Western counterparts when it comes to style and technique being adopted to narrate an action thriller. No wonder, he is being hailed as a director to reckon with and audience is already wondering what would be do next. More
5) Don 2
Panned by many critics, this film makes it to the list for not only being the first genuinely slick action flick of Bollywood, but also because it brought back memories of a Shahrukh Khan we didn’t despise. Don 2, despite its slow pacing and rather humdrum plot, worked rather gloriously because the Don himself got to deliver some fun punchlines; wear masks of actors far more good looking than him and romance the girl with the sexiest pout in Asia, Priyanka Chopra. Looking back at the year, this is the only mega hit of 2011 that was actually fun to sit through.
4) Stanley Ka Dabba
This film should be much higher up, if only it wasn’t for the lack of its mainstream elements. Yet, this is a small-scale, simple and spectacular film that works as effectively in providing a refreshing twist to the poor state of children’s cinema in India as it does in tugging at the heartstrings without trying too hard. The Partho kid is rather neat, but his father, director Amole Gupte (the writer of Taare Zameen Par) is the one who takes the cake here. A must-see!
3) Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
This film is in our list because this is, by far, the best looking flick of the year, a tour-guide to Spain that unimpressively breezed through much frivolity and mush before taking off the covers and showing us a heart and a soul. This was mainstream, commercial cinema that had something to say — and while the underlying theme was rather stale — the packaging was pretty damn great. Katrina rode a bike all the way through Barcelona only to give a man a kiss, Hrithik Roshan stood opposite her to complete the fantastic looking pair and Farhan Akhtar rose above the role to truly give a heartfelt performance.
2) The Dirty Picture
First banned and then unbanned in Pakistan, this gutsy film is perhaps the most unforgettable feature film of the year. The rigorously censored version in Pakistani theatres should be given a miss. This one is to be seen at home, late at night when kids and parents have been put to sleep. Revolving around a vulgar little South Indian item girl, The Dirty Picture is far braver an achievement than Delhi Belly — another push-the-envelope feature — simply because it uses a female to forward the theme. And what a female she is! Vidya Balan — a genuine actor revelling in her onscreen glory with such remarkable glee — is the one reason why this film is so high up on this list. Trendsetting stuff!
1) Rockstar
Take a bow, ladies and gentlemen. In a year when Aamir was absent, Hrithik was sleepy, Shahrukh and Salman were busy baking blockbuster recipes; one guy stood up and showed them all who the real daddy of performance is. Ranbir Kapoor and this realistic story of music, love and pain are not stuff that Bollywood is used to. Kapoor is a superstar and a spectacular actor who knows how to pull off both sides of him at the same time.

Farhan Akhtar is dying to take a break from work. With DON 2 out of his way and taking a very good opening that would ensure that at least a hit status is round the corner, Farhan is managing to breathe easy. As a producer his TALAASH is six months away which means he can now afford to take a break, something that he hasn’t done since he faced the camera for ROCK ON.
Informs a friend of the filmmaker/actor, “Farhan hadn’t imagined in his wildest of dreams that he would become mighty busy as a filmmaker as well as an actor when he first acted in ROCK ON. It seemed like just a solitary film that he wanted to experiment with and then return to making movies as a producer and director. However that was not the case to be and resultantly, he had to multitask with his various assignments.”
This meant that immediately after ROCK ON, he completed LUCK BY CHANCE as well, his second film as an actor. In fact acting bug bit him to such an extent that he went on to score a hat trick of acting assignments with KARTHIK CALLING KARTHIK. More
Akshaye Khanna says he is upset with filmmakers like Farhan Akhtar and Abbas Mustan for not offering him new movies even after giving them hits
Akshaye Khanna is quite candid when it comes to admitting his anger towards certain filmmakers in the industry. He is miffed with the directors who didn’t further offer him films, despite him giving them hits for their previous project together.
Ask him about Farhan Akhtar and Abbas-Mustan, who’re making films without him in the cast and Khanna reiterates, “Of course, I’m angry with all of them.” However, when probed about the reason, the actor smiles and simply says, “That’s something you should ask Farhan and others, instead of me.” More
Actor-director Farhan Akhtar does not rule out a third part to the Don series. But for now, he says he wants to ‘explore other genres’.
‘I never refused to make Don 3. It’s just someone misquoted me and misconstrued my words to make a spicy headline that Don 3 is not happening,’ Farhan told reporters at a press conference on Monday.
His latest Don 2: The King Is Back, a sequel to his 2006 film Don: The Chase Begins, is ready to hit the screens this Friday. He is confident about the movie, but wants to wait before taking a plunge into the third part of the action film.
‘As a filmmaker, I would want to explore other genres too and not get restricted to one. In my interview, I had actually said that at this point of time, I am not ready to take the story forward. I don’t want to get into it as of now, but I never denied the possibility of it. I am very fascinated by Don as character, and I would love to take it to the next level, but only when I have a good script. More
