No Comparisons : Hrithik’s Character Is Totally Different From Amitabh Bachchan In Agneepath
It is a known fact that for the Hrithik Roshan version of AGNEEPATH, while the one line plot from the Mukul S Anand-Amitabh Bachchan affair has been kept AGNEEPATH intact, Vijay Deenanath Chauhan’s characterization has gone through a sea change. While Amitabh Bachchan was shown to be all intense and strong with an element of wit in his dealings as an underworld don, Hrithik would be getting into an entirely different zone.
Informs a member from the writing team, ”This is a conscious call that was taken by Karan Johar and his debutant director Karan Malhotra. Don’t expect a sequence where Hrithik may be boasting about his ‘maut ka appointment’; as an underdog, he is a completely different character here.”
This was a huge risk being taken by Karan and Hrithik since audience till date remembers AGNEEPATH for the kind of charisma that Amitabh Bachchan brought on screen two decades ago. To shed that confident persona and get dominated by Sanjay Dutt (reprising the role of Danny Denzongpa) could have resulted in serious repercussions since that would have resulted in a battle of unequals. However Karan Johar is quite convinced with the characterization.
He says, ”All credit to the intelligence of Karan Malhotra and Hrithik Roshan that they decided to play Vijay differently. He is silent but then he is strong as well. What Mr. Bachchan did can’t be repeated, it’s as simple as that. No one can replicate his swagger and style. This is the kind of film were it is scary to remake it. The best way to pay homage was for Hrithik to play it totally different and explore a new zone.”
Well, here is hoping that the famed ‘police chowki’ scene with Vijay narrating his own ‘poora naam’ as well as ‘baap ka naam’ gets replicated at the least. Source
