In the upcoming film Patiala House Akshay Kumar will be seen playing a Mona Sardar, which means a Sardar without a turban. Akshay’s character Gattu, is shown to belong to a Sardar family but is not a Sardar.

According to insiders Akshay Kumar did not want to take any risks with Patiala House. During Singh is Kinng, large groups of Sardars had staged protests against Akshay Kumar, for incorrectly portraying a Sardar. This time around to avoid any such, undue conflict, Akshay requested director Nikhil Advani to change the script, and show his character as a Mona Sardar. The script originally had Akshay’s character as a Sardar, however Akshay explained his predicament to Nikhil.

Says a source close to Akshay “Akshay did not want to hurt any community’s religious sentiments, and he also did not want to take any risks with Patiala House, he therefore requested Nikhil to make changes to the script.”

Nikhil, understood Akshay’s situation and readily agreed. “Akshay’s character’s parents get so distressed during the riots that as a protection the did the unthinkable. Therefore in a harrowing sequence in Patiala House where Akshay’s characters hair and beard are shaved off.” Source
