The evergreen singer Mahendra Kapoor, who gave us hit numbers like ‘Chalo ek baar chalo’ (Gumrah), ‘Neele gagan ke taale’ (Hamraaz) and many such melodious songs, passed away on Saturday at 7: 30 pm.

He died of a sudden heart attack. He was suffering from kidney problems and was undergoing dialysis. He died in his sleep, said sources close to the family. He was 74 years old and is survived by his wife, three daughters and a son.

A favourite with the BR Banner, he also sang the title song of the hit TV show Mahabharata. Kapoor got his first break in V Shantaram’s Navrang in 1958 and worked nearly for the next five decades. He sang more than 25,000 songs in various languages.

The Maharashtra Government had recently honoured him with Lata Mangeshkar Award for his lifetime contribution in playback singing. Source

After Dilip Kumar, it was veteran actor Shashi Kapoor, who was admitted to a private hospital in Delhi for ‘medical attention.’

Kapoor was admitted for a routine check-up this morning, said an Apollo Indraprastha Hospital spokesperson, adding he would stay here for a day.

”He has come here for a routine check-up of ailments concerning his heart and kidney,” she informed. “Otherwise, he is doing fine and will be discharged tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, Dilip Kumar, who was admitted to the same hospital yesterday, is recuperating and his condition is stable, said the doctors. He was admitted with high fever and tests and investigations on him were being conducted even today, added the spokesperson. No time frame has been given for his release from the hospital. Source

The real superstar of Bollywood, actor Dilip Kumar has been admitted to a city hospital for treatment of a urinary infection.

The 86-year-old thespian was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Indraprasth Apollo Hospital late Thursday night, hospital sources said.

Kumar would be shortly shifted out of the ICU, the sources said, adding that he was being treated for the infection.

Aamir Khan has been a real good Mamu. Recently, during the shooting of Imran’s forthcoming ‘Kidnap’, an incident further showed the strong relationship the duo share.

‘Kidnap’ required a stunt scene, which involved jumping off from the 20th floor of a building. Sanjay Dutt, who is Imran’s co-star in the film was observing the stunt from below, which he thought would be done by a body double. But, to his immense surprise, Baba spotted the body double on the ground beside him, while Imran was up there, ready for the stunt.

Hot-blooded Imran was bent upon proving that, like Akshay Kumar, he can manage his own stunts. But experienced actor Sanjay saw danger in it. He directly called up mamu to stop his charge from taking the dangerous step. Aamir immediately called up Imran and advised him to refrain from the risky stunt at such an early stage in his career. The Big B of Bollywood Amitabh Bachchan has been voted Asia’s sexiest vegetarian male in a survey conducted by animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

Hong Kong’s singer-actress Faye Wong was voted Asia’s sexiest vegetarian female in the poll conducted among members of PETA Wednesday.

Runners-up in the competition included Taiwanese drama star Barbie Xu, Hong Kong actress Maggie Q and Cantopop singer and actress Stephy Tang.
 
Outside Asia, Coldplay singer Chris Martin, pop star Leona Lewis and camp British TV host Russell Brand were among the celebrities who polled most votes as sexiest vegetarians. PETA Asia-Pacific director Jason Baker said: “Going vegetarian is the best thing you can do for animals, the earth and your health. Abhishek Bachchan finally speaks up about his latest film Drona. “It’s my biggest and best film so far,” Abhishek Bachchan says.

Abhishek and Goldie have got together after more than seven years (BAS ITNA SA KHWAB HAI was released in July 2001).

In between, in 2006, Goldie had plans of making a thriller with Abhishek, but decided on making an adventure fare instead. “Goldie was disheartened after his debut film failed. Later, he diversified into television; he wanted to make his company secure before he announced his next film,” Abhishek reminisces.

Abhishek credits his directors for the (sterling) performances he has delivered in films like YUVA and GURU (Mani Ratnam) as also SARKAR and SARKAR RAJ (RGV).

“If at all DRONA works – and I hope it does – Goldie should get the credit for it. He has worked very, very hard. I am sure, the Indian audiences haven’t seen an adventure film like DRONA before,” he says confidently. Source

Latin actress Barbara Mori, who will soon be seen in Bollywood flick Kites, has managed to rope in her co-star Hrithik Roshan to babysit her young son.

Sources from the sets of the film in New Mexico have said that Hrithik has become very fond of Barbara’s son and spends time between takes playing with him. And in return, the kid is teaching Hrithik Spanish.

However, Hrithik’s wife Sussanne and their own young son Hridhaan will soon be travelling to New Mexico. Which will mean a conflict of interest for Hrithik… let’s hope he doesn’t neglect his own blood. Source

As a result of shooting non-stop for Jennifer Lynch’s Naagin The Snake Woman, Mallika Sherawat fell ill last week . Govind Menon and Mallika’s brother Vikram are co-producing the film along with Ratan Jain of Venus Records and Tapes. Irrfan Khan co-stars.

Though it’s a normal shift, it sometimes stretches from 9 am to 9 pm. The strain proved to be too much for Mallika. She is working very hard on her role. Her make-up alone takes four hours! Last Friday, the actress was in no condition to shoot. Her physician Dr Agarwal had to be called in to give her shots to help her get through the day.”
