Ashutosh Gowariker is ready to start his next film after Jodhaa Akbar. And this time round, Gowariker is planning something different. The director is believed to have brought the rights of an English play and is currently adapting it into a screenplay for a movie. The news doing the rounds is that he has signed on Harman Baweja, who is yet to make his debut, and his beloved Priyanka Chopra, to play the lead in his movie.
Ashutosh’s forthcoming film is being labeled a romantic comedy. This will mark a departure from the kind of films that he has directed in the past. All of them beginning with Lagaan and going on to Swades and Jodhaa Akbar, have been mounted on an epic scale. But this time round, Gowariker wants to change things by making a light hearted, quickie. The film is believed to based on a play which is about the traditional arranged marriage system, as it is prevalent in India. Gowariker had seen the rushes and promos of Harry Baweja’s Love Story 2050 and was impressed with what he saw of Harman that he signed him on. The film, which will be a co production between Ashutosh Gowariker Productions and UTV Motion Pictures, is expected to go on the floors by the end of the year. It will be shot in Mumbai and certain foreign locations.
Shah Rukh Khan is not the only actor who will not be going to the IIFA Awards to be held in Bangkok next month. Another actor who will not be part of the ceremony is none other than Shahid Kapur. But of course, his reasons for not going to Bangkok, are different from SRK’s.
As is common knowledge, Shahid has been signed on by director Vishal Bharadwaj for his next film, which is based on the story of Romeo and Juliet. The actor is believed to be working hard on his look for the film and does not want it to be revealed in public just yet. Hence, he will be skipping the IIFA function. The actor is currently trying to wrap up shooting for the major portions of his role in Ken Ghosh’s next opposite Jiah Khan so that his look does not clash with what he has planned for Bharadwaj’s film. The actor is believed to be working very hard for his role as Romeo and is trying his best to get into the skin of the character. Like other great actors before him, Shahid would prefer to spend more time with himself these days, as he prepares himself for the role.
Aamir Khan is after everyone… First Aamir Khan went ahead and told the world about his pet dog who is named after Shah Rukh, and now the bald-headed perfectionist uses a song to make a joke out of… our Salman Khan! Aamir has put pen to paper and written lyrics for a song that ridicules Salman Khan, and will now use it on the soundtrack of his forthcoming film Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na… which introduces his nephew Imran Khan.

Javed Saab has been seen judging many reality shows. We wonder why he hasn’t teamed up with Shabana yet to judge one such event. He has a simple response. “If you call us together, we’ll come together. So far, nobody has bothered to invite us to judge a show as a couple.” Javed and Shabana are known to encourage young talent. Javed spoke about a talent hunt held recently, which he judged. According to him, even budding talent from small towns needs to be given adequate encouragement and exposure. He said, “This time we decided to go beyond Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore and Mumbai. We went to small towns like Gwalior looking for promising talented children.” Let’s hope their efforts pay off.

Last year’s rib-tickling commedy Bheja Fry is on a roll once again. Sagar Ballary, the director is planning for a sequel of Bheja Fry that made a profit of around 10 - 12 crores. The director himself will be producing the film this time. The sequel is named as Bharat Bhushan Ki Kahani (bbkk), the famous character played by Vinay Pathak in the lead. Vinay Pathak will be supported by Ranvir Shorey and Rajat Kapoor of the Bheja Fry fame.
It’s no longer about cold wars. The starry world of Bollywood is busy with caustic combats instead. So Aamir Khan writes a cheeky blog entry describing his smelly dog named Shahrukh while Amitabh Bachchan rates Shah Rukh Khan’s new reality show as “Panchvi Fail”. Newcomer Sonal Chauhan says she was asked to wear bikini in her debut film.
Jannat marks the transition or rather graduation of Sonal from ramps to Bollywood. And the gorgeous belle has already got her priorities right in place.
For starters, she is not game for posing in revealing clothes. She is also not open to doing intimate scenes with her co-stars. Sonal has revealed in an interview that she was asked to wear a bikini and do a bed scene with Emraan Hashmi in ‘Jannat’, but she refused to do them.
“I have not shot a single scene where I am in bikini or in such a condition that I cannot watch with my family,” says Sonal and goes on to claim that ‘Jannat’ doesn’t even have a kissing scene between Emraan and her.
However, what she does concede to is doing a pole dance for a song with Russian dancers.
Sonal adds that working with Hashmi was fun. She recalls that he tried playing a few pranks on her, but without much success.
“On a promotional event he tried to add something into my drink, but I caught him. During shooting, we played pranks on a few unit-members by knocking on the doors of their rooms and disappearing,” says Sonal.
Apart from ‘Jannat’, Sonal has two more films with Vishesh Films. She recently also signed a film by producer Kumar Mangat.
Now that the film’s leading lady has been finalized, preparations for the shooting of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi are in full swing.
A significant part of the film’s story is set in Chandigarh. However, Aditya Chopra , who is making a comeback to direction after a long gap of eight years, is recreating Chandigarh at Film City, Goregaon.
Two production units are said to be working in top gear to create the movie’s sets. The first team is working to recreate the exterior of Chandigarh – the streets, shops and houses etc – at Devdas Maidan in Film City.
The other unit is working at Yashraj Studios to create sets for the scenes depicting the interiors.
Aditya Chopra is personally taking interest in every aspect of the film’s production. He plans to begin shooting soon. A part of the film will also be shot abroad.
