Aishwarya to do Item Number with Ex-Boyfriend Vivek Oberoi

aish-viv.jpg

It sounds unbelievable but a little birdie informed Gullu that Viveik Oberoi will do an item number with his ex-girlfriend Aishwarya Rai, and her husband  Abhishek Bachchan in Mission Istanbul.

The song will be shot in Rajasthan. Zayed Khan will also be a part of it.

The reason the Bachchans have agreed to be a part of the Viveik-starrer was because of Abhishek’s friendship with director Apoorva Lakhia.

Abhishek had starred in Lakhia’s first film, Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost. He, as well as Amitabh, had also guest-starred in Lakhia’s Shootout At Lokhandwala free of cost.

That’s probably why they say dost ke liye kuch bhi karega in Bollywood.

Political reason for Jodha Akbar protest

2182008125923pm.jpgHyderabad, Feb 18 (IANS) Eminent filmmaker Shyam Benegal Monday alleged that there was a political hand behind the protests held against Ashutosh Gowariker’s epic romance “Jodhaa Akbar” in several cities.

“This is the way politics is being played in this country,” he said at a press conference here. However, he refused to elaborate on which political party could be responsible for the protests.

Benegal said there were only a handful of people protesting the film and blamed the media for hyping the issue.

“Forty channels are reporting that people representing Rajput organisations are staging protests against the film and preventing its screening. There may be 50 people staging the protest, but the moment the news comes on national channels, you think it is a national problem,” he said.

On Monday, groups tried to disrupt the screening of the film in Gurgaon, Ahmedabad and Patna, saying that Gowariker had distorted historical facts.

Starring Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai, the movie was released Friday but banned in Rajasthan. The Karni Sena there has been spearheading a campaign against the film for quite some time.

The community says Gowariker is presenting Jodha Bai as Mughal emperor Jalaluddin Akbar’s wife, which is factually incorrect.

According to them, Jodha Bai was not the daughter of Raja Bharmal of Amber as shown in the film. The princess was the daughter of Motaraja Udai Singh of Marwar and she was married to Akbar’s son Salim alias Jehangir. And Mughal king Shahjahan was her son.

Gowarikar, however, says he made the film after thorough research and consultations with historians.

Sanjay Bhansali will tie the knot with Vaibhavi Merchant

e_35_1.jpgDirector Sanjay Leela Bhansali and choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant are slated to tie the knot at the end of next month.

According to a family source who did not wish to be identified, the wedding is to take place in the last week of March after Sanjay returns from Paris where he is working on a musical, Padmavati, for the French opera house, Theatre du Chatelet.

If sources are to be believed Vaibhavi’s family is quite excited about the marriage and wedding preparations are on in full swing. Bhansali and Vaibhavi Merchant have been working together  for several years with Vaibhavi choreographing for Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Devdas and Saawariya.

But it’s only recently, as reported by this newspaper first, that the twe_35_1a.jpgo have been linked romantically.
In the last couple of months the couple, quite reclusive otherwise, have been seen together publicly and Vaibhavi’s closeness to Bhansali’s family was made obvious at the premiere of  his film Saawariya.

“She walked into the premiere of the film along with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s mother Leela and sister Bela Saigal and it was more than obvious that Vaibhavi was definitely more than a professional colleague of Bhansali’s,” said our source. While Bhansali and Vaibhavi were themselves not available for comment, Sanjay’s sister Bela, when contaced laughed off the news as mere rumours.

When Jodhaa met Akbar

jodha-akbar.jpgSo, Jodhaa and Akbar show up today, in infinitely younger versions of the Mughal-Rajput royal pair engraved in the public mind as a heavyweight Prithviraj Kapoor in snowy whiskers and Durga Khote exuding the milk of maternal kindness.

In fact, Mughal-e-Azam, completed and released by K Asif 47 years ago after over a decade of labour — if not more — is so revered as ‘a historical’ film that it is an unmoveable benchmark, never mind its reissue in a falooda-tinted colour print.

Ironically, the classic hinged on the half-requited love between Prince Salim and the courtesan Anarkali whom most believe to be pure pulp fiction. She has inspired several movie chronicles, reeling off with a silent version in 1928 to spin-offs in Bombay as well as the southern film-producing centres. An account by director Nandlal Jaswantlal with Bina Rai in 1953 is still remembered, although for its excellent music score. Yet, even the most devout admirer of the Anarkali story is unsure whether she was made of flesh and blood or pen and paper, extended to the movie camera. More
