Manoj Kumar warned Shahrukh Khan

shahrukh_khan_200709052152270620_afp.jpg
There’s news for Shah Rukh Khan. Manoj Kumar is still very, very upset with him. In fact, he has threatened to go to court in the next 72 hours if the scenes spoofing him are not deleted from Om Shanti Om.

That’s what Manoj Kumar has told us. Also, he is grossly upset at the fracas which happened at his building Goswami Towers in Juhu, four days ago. He says, “A huge section of the media turned up outside my building. When I looked out, I saw that a huge tamasha was happening down there. The whole place had become like a fish-market.”

What did he do then? Manoj replies, “I called up Shah Rukh. When he had called up to apologise to me sometime back, he had given me his number. I called him thrice on that number. I wanted to know if he was coming to my house that day and why had the media and police gathered there.” More

John following Shahrukh’s foot steps

john_abraham.jpg

John Abraham is following Shah Rukh Khan’s footsteps. While SRK set a precedent vis-à-vis the promotion of OM SHANTI OM, John is also going that extra mile to promote his new film DHAN DHANA DHAN GOAL. Last week, the actor flew to London [Monday] to spread the word, the next stop was Dubai [Wednesday] to partake in the Dubai premiere, thereafter it was Mumbai [Thursday] for the Mumbai premiere, the next morning it was New Delhi for a special screening, then Goa and subsequently, Pune [mingled with the moviegoers at E Square multiplex].

At E Square, Pune, John threw more than 50 footballs — with his signature on each ball — at the overjoyed audience. “The crowd went berserk. The penultimate 25 minutes have caught on in a big way,” an elated John informs me. The promotion doesn’t end there. John is visiting various cities next to promote the film: Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Pune [once again].

“John’s dedication and his interest in marketing the film makes me wonder if he has joined our [UTV] marketing team,” UTV Vice President Siddharth Roy Kapur beams with joy. That’s a wonderful compliment. Wish all actors were as enthu as SRK and John!

Can John Abraham repeat the feat as a football striker?

john2.jpgDubai, Actor John Abraham believes Dubai is a lucky place for his films to be launched.

“It is good to be back in Dubai. It is a lucky place for me to have my films launched. I was here last for the premiere of ‘Taxi 9211′ and it worked,” he said at the premiere of UTV Motion Pictures’ “Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal” here Wednesday evening.

He was accompanied by Bipasha Basu, who also stars in the film, and director Vivek Agnihotri on the red carpet at the Grand Cineplex here.

He said Dubai was an apt place to have the premiere of “Goal” as the film has a very South Asian look.

“The film is about racism. It is about South Asians. And Dubai is the place where the whole of South Asia – India, Pakistan and Bangladesh – meets,” the actor said.

“Goal” revolves around Southall United Football Club, a struggling South Asian team in Britain, facing its deepest crisis yet – bankrupt, with no stars, no coach, no sponsors, no takers, no spectators and most importantly no owner. More

Salmaan Khan has been favourite

Mumbai, Nov 23 (IANS) Director Raj Kumar Santoshi is baffled by reports that Salman Khan insisted on getting Shahid Kapoor out of a love story starring the latter and Katrina Kaif.

“I really don’t know when and where these stories come from. I’m currently in the pre-production stage of my ‘Ashoka’ film with Ajay Devgan and Bipasha Basu. But the Katrina-Shahid film is not shelved. We’re on the lookout for another script,” Santoshi said.

Speaking about Salman, he said: “I’ve been fond of Salman from the time we worked together in ‘Andaz Apna Apna’. I’d love to work with him again any time. He’s a very cooperative, kind and generous actor. He has never interfered in my casting and he never will tell me whom to work with or not work with. Yes, I’m open to suggestions on casting.”

Are any of my vital organs seen?

getimage.pngKangana Ranaut simply doesn’t care about what people have to say about her picture on the cover of a film magazine. Seen in a body suit, Kangana’s picture is accompanied by a headline that screams: Naked truth exposed!

Kangana’s so-called nude appearance has caught a lot of attention. The actress, however, is unfazed. She says, “What’s the big deal about the picture? Are any of my vital organs seen? I haven’t posed nude at all. These days one doesn’t need to. Body suits are available readily in the market.”

Kangana fails to understand why so many eyebrows are being raised? She says, “Why would I be upset? It was for an annual issue and we just tried doing something different. In my profession, one has to do different kinds of photo shoots. I fail to understand why such a big deal is made about a normal picture.”

Aishwarya’s surprise gift in 2008

ash_provoked_main.jpgIt would be quite a handful for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan fans in early 2008 as two of her films would be hitting the marquee in quick succession.

25th January 2008 has been booked for the release of Ashutosh Gowarikar ‘s Jodhaa Akbar which features Ash opposite her Dhoom 2 star Hrithik Roshan .

Then Ash gets to appear in a Bachchan family photo frame with the release of Ram Gopal Varma ’s Sarkar Raj , which is expected to arrive on 8th February, just a fortnight after ‘Jodhaa Akbar’.

Though she is not paired opposite Abhishek Bachchan in the film, Ash is said to be playing a powerful character in the Sarkar sequel.

Currently these are the only two films for which Ash has worked in the recent past though talks are on between her and Rohan Sippy for the Sriram Raghavan film that stars John Abraham in the lead.

Saawariya has garnered Rs.50 crores

salman1.jpg

Sony Pictures’ first Indian co-production Saawariya , in collaboration with Sanjay Leela Bhansali , has garnered Rs 50 crore (USD 12.5 million) across 754 screens in India over the Diwali weekend November 9-11.Great number of audiences has commented that the movie is far better than Om Shanti Om.The critics also say the same.

‘Saawariya’, the first Bollywood production from any Hollywood studio, lit up screens in 12 other markets (across 230 screens) — UK, US, UAE, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Kenya, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Singapore, and collected 1.5 million dollar.

The worldwide tally for the same weekend is 14 million dollar, said Uday Singh, managing director of SPE Films India.

Commenting on this performance and the fact that ‘Saawariya’ released on the same day as Om Shanti Om , Singh said, ”We are thrilled with the opening and the fact that audiences everywhere have connected with the film, especially the youth, who have loved the heartwarming performances by the two newcomers — Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor.”

”Sony Pictures congratulates Shah Rukh Khan and the entire ‘Om Shanti Om’ team for setting the all-time record for a film during the Diwali box office weekend. It is truly an amazing accomplishment,” he said.

“But what is even more significant is that two major films competed against each other and both did enormously well.

Begum Para makes a comeback after 50 years in ” Saawariya”

11152007113211pm.jpgMumbai, Nov 16 (IANS) Begum Para, seen as Sonam Kapoor’s spirited grandmother in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Saawariya”, makes a comeback to the silver screen after 50 years and says hers is the longest lay-off in the history of show business.

She took a break from films after marrying legendary Dilip Kumar’s lesser-known brother Nasir Khan.

“That was in 1958,” Begum Para, now a healthy 80, laughed throatily. “Now I’m back in 2007 in ‘Saawariya’. This has to be the longest lay-off in the history of show business,” Begum Para told IANS.

Before settling down with Nasir Khan, she did films like “Shama”, “Mehdi”, “Pedro” and “Dada” in the 1940s.

“You know in our film industry there’s this old habit of typecasting actors. I was typecast as the so-called liberated woman. The roles were not interesting enough for me. They stamped me as this smoking woman who always ends up insulting her father.

3 Bachhans together in a movie

Even as Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra prepares to start his next project, the autobiographical Delhi 6, he is also planning a casting coup for Bhairavi — three of the Bachchans. Mehra intends to bring Amitabh, Jaya and Abhishek together in their real-life roles of husband, wife and son in Bhairavi, which will be set in the world of classical Indian music and carry forward the theme of strife amidst competitive creativity.
“It’s a project that has been with me for a while. I have already narrated it to Amitji and Abhishek. And they’re on,” Mehra said. “Ideally, I’d have liked to make it immediately after Aks. But a combination of forces came in the way. I’m ready to do the film as soon as the dates are worked out. One thing is for sure. Bhairavi has to be made with Amitji, Abhishek and Jaya,” he added.

But Jaya is known to be extremely finicky about projects. She isn’t too sold on the idea of coming together with her husband and son onscreen. Will she agree? “She has to! I’ll go on a hunger strike in front of her house until she agrees. Bhairavi must be made, preferably this year,” said Mehra.

Incidentally, Bhairavi is the name of Mehra’s daughter. While he waits for his dream project to materialise, Mehra also has plans for Paanch Kaurav. “It is a mythical opus, on the lines of Raiders Of The Lost Arc and Lord Of

The Rings. It’s a huge film, with an estimated budget of Rs 70 crores,” he explained.
