Film Buddha cost 90 crores

Esteemed filmmaker Shyam Benegal is all set to make a historic film based on the life and time of Gautam Buddha, which will be jointly produced by Mumbai-based Beyond Dreams Entertainment and Sri Lanka’s Light of Asia Foundation. The project which will roll next year will be based in Sri Lanka, and will cost a whopping 90 crores. Says Shyam Benegal, “The film has a global subject and will tell the story of the journey of Prince Siddharth to Gautam Buddha. Buddha’s message on non violence and peace is as relevant as that of Gandhi in these present days.” With the number of Gandhi films being made these days, Gautam Buddha may prove to be an interesting concept, as well. After all, everyone seems to be going spiritual these days! And the lessons learnt in the process are indeed priceless.

Salman Khan met an accident.

salman_in_chinkara_case.jpgSalman Khan accidentally banged his bicycle into a car in Juhu.

Salman Khan is known to ride his bicycle around town. And some weeks ago the actor accidentally banged into a car in Juhu.

This accident resulted in a dent in the car, and the car-owner was naturally fuming mad, till he saw that the person to have done this was none other than Sallu bhai.

Stunned and a little star-struck, the owner didn’t quite know how to react, and suddenly mellowed down.

And when Salman approached him to apologise, the astounded man in all his nervousness simply said, “You’re welcome!” We hear he’s now let the dent on his car remain for ‘sweet memories’.

Salman refuses Vivek’s apology

vivek_salman_pic248.jpg

Mumbai: It’s one of Bollywood’s oldest mantras – let bygones be bygones. And on Sunday, actor Viveik Oberoi decided to do just that, when he made an impromptu gesture of seeking forgiveness from actor Salman Khan. But it seems it didn’t work!

After performing to the hit number Beedi Jalaile with Koena Mitra at the Rajiv Gandhi Awards function in Mumbai, Viveik turned towards Salman who was seated in the front row, folded his hands, then like an errant child bowed in front of him grabbing his ears in forgiveness.

Salman, for his part, was in no mood to forgive. Those present at the occasion say Salman just shook his head dismissively, and ignored not only Viveik’s gesture, but also Shilpa Shetty’s request to forgive him.

Shilpa was seated beside Salman in the front row. Both Salman and Shilpa received the Rajiv Gandhi Award for their contribution to cinema and entertainment.

Despite the snub from Salman, Viveik made it clear he was thrilled with the crowd’s reaction to his performance. “I have nothing but love and respect for my seniors who were present in the auditorium. They cheered me on, everyone was very supportive,” Viveik said.

Chak de India ‘ commentary on sexism’

chak_01.jpg

New York, Aug. 12 (PTI): Shah Rukh Khan-starrer “Chak De! India” now running across the US is a “commentary on sexism in India”, says the New York Times.

In the Sunday column Andy Webster says though “the making-of-a-team sports movie is a timeworn genre, and yet ‘Chak De! India’ finds new variations… and (viewers) will find a lot to like.”

Webster – in the review titled “‘Chak De! India’ – ‘You Go, Girl,’ as Translated into Hindi’” – says, “In fact, the film’s greatest merit is its commentary on sexism in India. As it should, ‘Chak De! India’ gives the women, in the closing credits, the last word.”
