Three years ago, Aishwarya Rai had signed a Hollywood film, The Invaders, with American actor Brendan Fraser (remember The Mummy?) and then boyfriend Vivek Oberoi.

The film was to be directed by Roland Joffe (City of Joy), but then the project went cold and buzz was that it had been shelved.

However, a Belgium-based entertainment company called Corsan has offered to fund the film and it is being revived, with some major changes, of course.

The title has been changed to Singularity and Vivek is no longer a part of the film.

Corsan has signed a co-production deal with the Indian company Neelmudra Entertainment to produce the film.

Sources claim Corsan has put up $35 million for the film and shooting will begin in January next year in India and South Africa.

‘Not for me’

Debu Deodhar, a renowned Marathi filmmaker and associate producer of Singularity, confirms, “Yes, Singularity is definitely happening but it’s too early to talk about it.

The picture will be clear in the next two months.” 

Interestingly, the project was announced when Ash and Vivek were in a relationship.

But now that they’re no longer together and Ash has married Abhishek Bachchan, Oberoi doesn’t want to be part of the film even if it’s revived.

A source close to Oberoi reveals that he opted out of the film a long time ago.

“The production house wasn’t too sure about the dates and Vivek was doing Kisna at that time, so he decided not to do the project.

He’s received feelers again now that the project is being revived, but he doesn’t want to be a part of it anymore.”

When asked if Ash’s presence in the film was the reason, the source says, “Vivek wants to concentrate on mainstream Bollywood films. He doesn’t plan to go the Hollywood way at the moment.”

They say that hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Now, Abhishek Bachchan is at the receiving end of Kareena Kapoor’s anger. Earlier we heard that Abhishek Bachchan had refused to work with Kareena Kapoor in a Karan Johar production mainly because she’s Karisma Kapoor’s sister. Now we hear that it’s Kareena’s turn to reject Abhishek. She has refused a film with Jr Bachchan.

The story goes that Apoorva Lakhia, who is planning his next film with Abhishek, is a tad surprised by Kareena turning down the plum offer. Apparently, Abhishek had given his assent to the film despite knowing that Lakhia was keen on roping in Kareena for the film. But Kareena begged out of the film saying that she is uncomfortable working with Abhishek. A source close to Apoorva says, “Apoorva was very keen on having Kareena in the film. But she refused to do the film because of Abhishek’s presence in it.” If sources are to be believed, the producers were looking at a patch-up between Bebo and Abhishek. The film is going on the floors at the end of this year. Ever since his break-up with Kareena’s sister Karisma, Abhishek has maintained a distance from Karisma’s immediate family. Although Abhishek was good friends with Kareena he made his anti-Kapoor stand very clear at a lot of events later

Sources close to Kareena blame Abhishek for their friendship going sour. Reportedly Kareena has even made attempts to patch up with the unrelenting Bachchans. But she was irritated when Abhishek opted out of films whenever any producer considered her for a role opposite him.Says a source close to Kareena, “After Refugee and Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon, lots of producers have been trying to cast them together. But, Abhishek has seen to it that Kareena is never a part of any film that he works in.”

However, when quizzed about the Abhishek-Kareena tiff, Apoorva Lakhia simply said, “I can’t finish one film where do I have time for anything else?”

However, our sources insist that the producers are now talking to a bunch of other female actors for a role opposite Abhishek.

Filmi friendships are forged fast and forgotten even faster. Suddenly, things have gone awry between John Abraham and Arshad Warsi. And it didn’t take much for a cold war to spark off between the two. Apparently, the ultra-cool John didn’t take it too well when he realised that Bollywood’s favourite second-fiddle Arshad was getting equal footage in Vivek Agnihotri’s Goal. No one realised that anything was amiss as John likes to be politically correct and he didn’t make a show of his displeasure. But the friction became difficult to ignore when John refused to hug Arshad in one of the scenes. A source from the unit of Goal reveals, “The scene required John to hug Arshad, but John refused outright. Instead, he asked Vivek to change the scene. Vivek blatantly snapped, ‘Please keep your personal problems aside and then come to work.’ Arshad kept his cool and he didn’t show any disrespect for John or Bipasha.”

John and Arshad play soccer champions in the film and they needed to reflect camaraderie on screen. At first, it was fine but by the end of the schedule they had too many issues. They would maintain a safe distance. “Arshad was feeling homesick and he wanted to come back because Maria was pregnant. He would sit alone all the time. It did not help that he was even staying alone. John and Bipasha thought that he was acting pricey because his films Lage Raho Munnabhai and Kabul Express were a hit,” our source says.

However, John finally managed to get his way. “He was able to twist Vivek’s arm to get more scenes. They re-worked many scenes to make sure that John gets the limelight,” says our source. Arshad seems to be upset, but prefers not to talk about it.

Director Vivek Agnihotri says, “This is untrue. Nothing happened on the sets of Goal, and I don’t have any idea about John and Arshad fighting. I don’t know if they have personal problems, but they were extremely professional and didn’t give me any trouble.”

Bipasha, however, threw tantrums quite openly. “She would get irritated if Vivek would call her to the sets and make her wait for some time. She would throw a fit saying, ‘Why do you call me when you are not ready with the scene?’ This would upset Vivek, but he was helpless. He had to finish the film,” says our source.

Evergreen actor Dev Anand must be one of the very few actors to have turned down a role in Shah Rukh Khan’s next production, Om Shanti Om, directed by Farah Khan. According to an industry source, “Farah was keen to take Dev Anand for a role in OSO as other industry stalwarts like Subhash Ghai, Rishi Kapoor and Mithun Chakroborty have played themselves in the film.

They have all been a part of the (flashback) ’70s half of the movie. But Dev saab politely refused saying he has never done a special appearance before and has always done main leads.”

Dev Anand, when contacted, says, “Farah Khan called me and said she was inviting stars to play themselves as a part of a film sequence. I had to decline the offer, as I have never played such a role before.

I don’t want to break my tradition by doing guest appearances. I have always functioned alone. I told her to give my good wishes to Shah Rukh. I wished them all the best and hope they make a great film.”

This is the most shocking disclosure about Himesh’s upcoming film Aap Ka Surroor. The lead actress opposite Himesh in the film is none other than child artiste Hansika Motwani. Hansika is the same girl who was seen in the film Jaago starring Raveena Tandon. She was also child artiste in films like Hum Kaun Hai, Hawa and Escape From Taliban. She was also seen in the famous television soap, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. However, her most notable film is Hrithik Roshan starrer Koi Mil Gaya in which Hansika played one of the kids from the super-six group. Her last film as a child artiste was Dheeraj Kumar’s Aabra Ka Daabra which came out in December 2004.

Within a span of just two years, Hansika made her comeback in films but as a lead actress. Early this year, she made her debut in a Telugu film Desamuduru. And now, Hansika will soon make her Bollywood debut with Himesh Reshammiya in Aap Ka Surroor. She is however publicized as a debutant actress named Ria. Now, why would they try to hide her identity? In fact, even in the publicity stills of the film, all the pictures having Hansika are kept to minimum resolution, which makes it difficult to recognize her. But our source confirms, ?Yes, Ria is Hansika Motwani. She plays the lead actress in the film.?
 

Its quite shocking though that within less than three years, Hansika’s looks became so mature. Interestingly, Hansika was to make her debut opposite Mithun Chakravarthy’s son Mimoh in He – The Only One but the film was 60 percent shot and then got stuck. 

So, now you will see, Hansika Motwani, the cute looking child artiste of one time, playing the lead actress opposite Himesh!! The weird part however is that Hansika is just 15 year old and Himesh is??well, we better keep our mouth shut. Hope the two click onscreen though as Aap Ka Surroor will be a crucial film for Ria aka Hansika and will also decide if Himesh should face the camera or continue with his work in the recording studio.

Barely a day after a Jaipur resident filed a police complaint against actress and TV anchor Mandira Bedi for allegedly showing disrespect to the national flag, another complaint was filed on the same grounds against her in a court in in the South Indian city of Kozhikode on Monday.

Pushparaj, hailing from Koyilandy near here, moved the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court seeking action against Bedi for reportedly wearing a sari while hosting a show on a TV channel during the World Cup final that had the national flags of the 16 participating nations printed in it.

According to the complainant, ‘India’s flag, however, was placed near her knees’ which allegedly violated the Flag Code.

“By wearing the sari, she has shown disrespect to our national flag and according to section 2 of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971, she can be punished with imprisonment upto three years”, petitioner’s Counsel, S K Premraj told PTI over phone from Kochi.

While Bedi has been arrayed in as the first accused, designer Puneet Nanda is the second accused, he said, adding the complainant has also prayed for examining Kunaldas Gupta, Chief Executive of Sony Entertainment TV, Charu Sharma, co-anchor, former cricketers Tony Greig, Arjuna Ranatunga and Ian Chappell as witnesses, as they were present during the show ‘Extraa Innings’.

The court accepted the complaint on file and posted the matter for May 10, he said.

Bedi had earlier been amidst controversy for using a Sikh religious symbol on her body as a tattoo. She then sent a signed apology to the Akal Takht, the highest body of Sikh religious affairs, expressing regret.
