ONE OF Bollywood`s hottest onscreen pairs, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, will wed next month but celebrations are likely to be subdued because the groom`s grandmother is ill, media reports said today.

The wedding, billed as Bollywood`s biggest in decades, is expected to take place between April 18 and 20 at Bachchan`s home in Mumbai, newspapers and TV channels said.

“I can tell you a date has been discussed, but I am not in a position to disclose it now,” spokesperson for Rai said. “It is for the two families to make any announcement.”

Bachchan`s spokesman could not be reached for comment.

The Times of India newspaper said April 20 had been vetted by astrologers as an auspicious day for both stars.

“The date April 20 is free of `doshas` or bad combinations,” Naveen Khanna, an astrologer, was quoted as saying.

Bachchan and Rai got engaged in January, ending fevered speculation about their hush-hush romance. Abhi and Ash, as the Indian media calls them, have been likened to Hollywood celebrity couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

The wedding ceremony at Bachchan`s home is likely to be a strictly private affair with only about 15 close family and friends invited, the media reports said. Bachchan`s octogenarian grandmother is in hospital.

Rai, 33, and Bachchan, 31, have worked together in at least five films. Rai was crowned Miss World in 1994.

Her few minutes of fame in The Myth and the walk on the Red Carpet at the Cannes Film festival, Mallika Sherawat has now caught the eye of another Hollywood filmmaker.

Mallika Sherawat, who has signed for a woman-centric Hollywood film ‘Unveiled’ to be directed by Bill Bannerman, calls it ‘a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity’.

“It’s a fantastic story – part thriller, part psychological drama, part film noir… It was so fast paced and exciting and so well written, I couldn’t put it down for a second,” said Mallika.

“And the icing on the cake was that it’s a story from the point of view of a woman — a woman who has relationships with three men from different continents, and she goes from an ultra-traditional Muslim environment to an ultra-liberal Western one. This is a script I could never say no to,” she added.

Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan and girlfriend Rosa have decided to go their own separate ways. Saif confirms their split saying, “Yes, Rosa and I have decided to part ways and she has gone back home.” However he refuses to elaborate any further on the reasons for their split.

Recently there were several rumours regarding the couple’s innumerable differences but the couple continued to deny their disagreements. The couple perhaps was trying to work it out but after the recent strains on Saif and his health the two decided to part ways.

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, winner of the reality TV show “Celebrity Big Brother” that saw her at the centre of a racism row in Britain, almost stumbled and slipped in her high heels when she met Queen Elizabeth at a service marking Commonwealth Day Monday.

“I nearly slipped,” Shilpa said after the event at the Westminster Abbey. The Duke of Edinburgh told the Indian actress, “Look, be careful with your heels.”

A passionate, no-holds-barred kiss between Celina Jaitley and Aftab Shivdasani left the actress with a bleeding lip.

Vikram Bhatt’s forthcoming movie Red has Celina playing a young widow who gets involved in an intense physical and emotional relationship with a man (Aftab) suffering from a heart ailment. The movie features Celina and Aftab in many steamy and intimate scenes, one of which is a passionate kiss. In the scene, Aftab is shown pushing Celina against a wall and then smooching her forcibly.

Since the film’s director Vikram Bhatt wanted the scene to look real, he told the two actors to shed their inhibitions before shooting the scene. But when the shot was being taken, Aftab was apparently a little too wild on Celina. After a few takes, Celina was left with a bleeding upper lip.

The gash further got worse after an infection caused by the lipstick that Celina was using. The actress had to see a doctor and get a tetanus injection. The kissing scene was eventually completed after a two-day delay.

Apparently, Aftab was quite embarrassed because of the incident. It was good that he had asked his girlfriend Yana Gupta to not come on the sets while he was shooting the kiss with Celina.

“It came as a pleasant surprise when I was informed that I was chosen as a winner of the BEST ACTOR award for BAS EK PAL”, informs Jimmy Sheirgill who has just won this award in the recently concluded Fourth National Media Festival and Cine India International Film Festival – THE BIG PICTURE-07.

Held at Amity University Campus, Noida, the festival also saw BAS EK PAL being nominated for the BEST FILM.

“I didn’t even know that there was any award for the BEST ACTOR in the festival. I was there with director Anand Kumar for the promotion of DELHII HEIGHTS and by the time I reached the venue I realized that I had been announced as the winner. Thankfully director Onir was there to reach the stage and collect the award on my behalf”, smiles Jimmy.

With movies like BAS EK PAL and EKLAVYA getting him good recognition as an actor who can play variety of roles, is he planning to revisit his strategy of picking up roles? “Well, there are number of exciting films up for release in coming months that would project me in different lights. The going has been good and from DELHII HEIGHTS onwards, you would see me playing different roles in each of the films”, he concludes.

After adding colour to the Holi Special of the game show Kaun Banega Crorepati on March 1, actress Preity Zinta donated the money she won on the show to the Shimla District Red Cross Society.

She donated a sum of Rs 25 lakh, ADM Ajay Sharma said on Sunday.
