Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty thanked British Prime Minister Tony Blair for supporting her in the international “racist bullying” row after meeting him during a visit to the Houses of Parliament. Shetty said Blair had expressed his upset at how she was treated on Britain’s “Celebrity Big Brother” reality television show, in which British housemates picked on the Indian actress, sparking a major row.

She was invited to parliament by Keith Vaz, an MP of Indian ethnic origin, who was later taking her to his Leicester constituency in east central England, home to one of Britain’s largest Indian communities.

On her trip around Parliament, she met ministers Peter Hain, Tessa Jowell and Jack Straw, the former foreign secretary who sparked a multiculturalism row over the role of the Islamic veil in British society.
