The Battle Between Preity, Rani & Kareena

What’s common between Kareena Kapoor, Rani Mukerji and Preity Zinta? Well, for starters all three have been around for over a decade. Secondly, each of them has ruled from the top at some point in time or the other. Thirdly, they would be finding themselves in the middle of an unlikely three way battle this September.

”While HEROINE (Kareena) and AIYYA (Rani) were always supposed to hit the screens this September, now Preity has also joined the fray. There is a very strong likelihood of her ISHKQ IN PARIS releasing in the same month. This is an interesting development because this would be for the first time in last so many years that three heroine centric films would arrive in back to back weeks,” informs a trade source.

While Kareena is anyways reigning from the top and has Madhur Bhandarkar at the helm of affairs, her HEROINE has stayed on to be a very hot toppic for many months. On the other hand it is surprising though that the makers of AIYYA aren’t making much noise about the film. Comments a PR expert, ‘Perhaps AIYYA wants to make a sudden strike and then hit hard. However once that happens, it would indeed prove to be quite a challenge for HEROINE and ISHKQ IN PARIS.’ More

Kahaani Is Still Multiplying Money At The Box Office

Kahaani has earned Rs.43.05 crore since its release March 9.

Director Sujoy Ghosh made it at a budget of Rs.8 crore and the collections show that it’s a bumper hit of the first quarter of the year. The second week breakup goes like Rs.2.5 crore Friday, Rs.4.7 crore Saturday, Rs.4.9 crore Sunday, Rs.2 crore Monday, Rs.1.75 crore Tuesday, Rs.1.6 crore Wednesday and Rs.1.5 crore Thursday.

“Generally, most films register a 50 percent to 70 percent decline in the second week, since the screen count is fair/massive these days, but the decline in this case was around 25 percent, which is simply remarkable,” tweeted trade analyst Taran Adarsh. Source

Its Going To Be Sanjay Dutt Vs Aditya Chopra At The BO

Though Bollywood filmmakers usually have an unwritten pact about not coming in each other’s way, especially when it comes to release of their films, it seems like all sense of brotherhood won’t really hold true this summer. This is evident from the fact that Sanjay Dutt has decided to take on Chopras head-on even though it was the latter’s film that has been finalised for release first.

“Arjun Kapoor would be making his debut with ISHAQZAADE which releases in May. Aditya Chopra has taken a personal interest in launching yet another newcomer in the lead after Ranveer Singh. He is very particular about ISHAQZAADE seeing good hype building for it but seems like Sanjay Dutt may well foil his plans. Now that he has decided to bring DEPARTMENT on the same date, it is going to be the clash of titans, in this case Dutt v/s Chopras”, informs our well placed source who has been closely following the progress of both the films.

In fact Ram Gopal Varma has declared DEPARTMENT plans for the first time after a lot of dilly-dallying and it is almost impossible that he would now make way for the Chopras. More

Agneepath Is The Ultimate Blockbuster of 2012

Agneepath is clearly emerging as the first blockbuster of the year 2012. After a slight dip in the collections on Friday, the film picked up well on Saturday and Sunday. Here’ the lowdown.

The film, starring Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Dutt, Rishi Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, opened to a thunderous start on the Republic Day, January 26, when it broke off all box office records for the first-day earning, by raking in a whopping Rs. 23 crore.

However, there was an alarming fall in the collections on Friday with the day bringing in just Rs. 12 crore into the film’s kitty. The response picked up on Saturday as the collections role to Rs. 14.5 crore. Sunday was still better with Rs. 17.5 crore.

Totting up the figures leaves us with an aggregate first weekend collection of Rs. 67.5 crore for Agneepath, which is quite good and justifies all the partying by the film’s actors to celebrate its success. More

Will Players Outperform Dhoom 2?

DHOOM 2 is still remembered for the bravado displayed by Hrithik Roshan when he performed a heist of the lifetime on the top of a moving train. The sequence is still remembered for its grandeur but if the makers of PLAYERS are to be believed, the kind of action as seen in this film centered on gold heist would outshine the sequences seen in DHOOM 2.

Though Abbas-Mustan aren’t willing to get into any comparison mode, they are quite gung-ho about the action in their film which has been shot across places as far off as New Zealand and North Pole. Says Abbas Burmawala, ”Yes, PLAYERS has been made at an altogether different scale. If you remember THE ITALIAN JOB, it had opened with a sequence set in a canal. Here we have started with trains. Of course there have been films where action has been shot atop trains. However, we have done it differently because there are two trains involved. Visually, the entire sequence has come across as really stunning.” More
