Celebrity designer Manish Malhotra’s shows are known for their heavy dose of Bollywood presence and it was not surprising that A-list actresses like Priyanka Chopra, Rani Mukjerji and Priety Zinta dazzled in the guest gallery at his offering at the Lakme Fashion Week.

The show, which was sponsored by Aircel to promote its Save The Tiger Initiative, was attended by most of Malhotra’s close friends and Bollywood actress including Urmila Matondkar, Sonakshi Sinha, Sameera Reddy and Sangeeta Bijlani.

The girl gang occupied front row and visibly enjoyed the show as they were seen giggling, clapping and cheering while the models sashayed down the ramp showcasing Malhotra’s designs, which were all contemporary evening wear.

“For me, my clothes are my life and I wake up to it. ‘Save the Tiger’ is also a great cause to support and I’m happy that I collaborated with them,” Malhotra told reporters after the show. More

It might come as a surprise but Rani Mukerji has walked out of Deepa Mehta’s film, an adaptation of Salman Rushdie’s masterpiece novel Midnight’s Children, because she apparently didn’t want to play the mother of a 14-year-old. That she happily played a mother of two kids in Yash Raj Films’ Ta Ra Rum Pum almost three years ago is another matter. A source says, “She asked Mehta that how she can play the mother of a 14-year old when she herself is just 30? She preferred to leave the film instead.”
 
Initially, Rani was quite excited about the idea of working with Mehta as it would have been the first time in her 13-year career that she would have worked with a female director. Reportedly, she had even met Rushdie and Mehta in Toronto for the same. Mehta confirmed that Rani is no longer in her film. She also said that Rani had informed her about the same. “Rani was required to play a mother in a section of the film, but there is no kid in the film who is 14 years old,” said the filmmaker.

However, Mehta dismissed the buzz that Rani turned her down because she didn’t want to play a teenager’s mother. She said, “Rani had some personal reasons for not doing the film. I cannot disclose the reasons because there are some things, which are confidential between a director and an actor. I have great regard for Rani and total respect for why she is not working with me in this film.” More

Rani Mukherjee’s brother Raaja Mukerji who has been associated with a lot of television serials as a producer, is now working on his first home production — Life Ise Gale Laga Le. The film is a romantic drama and it written and directed by Yogesh Pagare. Shooting of the film is scheduled to start in January 2010.

The latest hottie diva Rani Mukherjee collected her trophy at the V Shantaram Awards ceremony held in honour of the late great film-maker, responsible for many significant films of the golden era of the 1950s including the classic Do Aankhen Barah Haath. Rani’s award was in recognition of her performance in Dil Bole Hadippa. “This feels great because getting a V. Shantaram award means a lot to me,” she said, “We all know that we are the unfortunate ones who were not born in his era and didn’t get an opportunity to work with him.”

Prakash Raj won the Best Male Actor Award for his role in Kanchivaram, a gripping tale of poverty in India near the end of British colonial rule and the political forces that will help to shape India’s destiny. The film was premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2008 and has gone on to win several awards. It co-stars Shriya Reddy. Kanchivaram also won the Best Film Gold Award.

The Marathi film Gabhricha Paus won the Silver Award. The film highlights the plight of farmers in drought-stricken Maharashtra leading to high rates of suicide as they struggle against environmental change and the lack of any coherent government strategy for agricultural support. The film stars Sonali Kulkarni.

On the 50th anniversary of her ht musical Navrang, Sandhya picked up a Lifetime Achievement Award. Sandhya was the third wife of the late film-maker V Shantaram. Source

With her latest film Dil Bole Hadippa ready for release, Rani Mukherjee not just on screen but also on the air waves… burned in a rollicking chat show live from Mumbai’s No. 1 radio station the Radio Mirchi studios recently.

Listeners of the popular station lapped it up eagerly as Rani’s husky voice narrated to RJ Suren of Sunset Samosa how she plays a boy ‘Veer’ and a girl ‘Veera’ in the film just to live out her small town dreams in 70mm.

Then, the actress chatted with winners of a Radio Mirchi contest and tested their linguistic skills by asking them to say the Punjabi words of some of the foot-stomping music from the film. RJ Suren asked, “Rani, what does Hadippa mean?” And she replied, “It is an expression of excitement. Dil Bole Hadippa! means that my heart is very happy and excited.”

When Salman Khan started the second season of his show ‘10 Ka Dum’, he made it clear that he is left with no real friends in the industry, so the channel had to look for the celebs as the guests for the show.

During the shoot of the forthcoming episode of his show ‘10 Ka Dum’, when Salman had guests Rani Mukherjee and Shahid Kapur, he couldn’t let bygones be bygones. If he was cordial and very comfortable with his dearest friend Rani, Salman cold shouldered the other guest Shahid. Now, that’s puzzling. Why a warm host like Salman acted this way with Shahid?

Actually, a few years back, during the Rockstar tour, Salman and Shahid had a squabble which has led to cold vibes between them to this day. That could be the reason why Salman wasn’t so friendly with Shahid, while he kept hugging Rani. According to a source, Salman’s ‘Hi’ to Shahid was a dry one and his reaction towards Shahid remained ‘indifferent’ till the end of the episode.

Yes, the grapevine is abuzz with the news that she is wearing a bikini in her upcoming film Dil Bole Hadippa, where she acts opposite Shahid Kapoor.
