‘Shanghai’ To Hit The Big Screns On June 8, 2012

PVR Pictures’ Emraan Hashmi and Abhay Deol starrer SHANGHAI is all set to release on June 8, 2012. The film is directed by Dibakar Banejee and also stars Kalki Koechlin and Prosenjit Chatterjee in prominent roles.

The movie is based on the life of politicians and their greed and has been inspired from Costa Gavras directed movie Z, released in 1969. SHANGHAI portrays the present political scenario and how common man gets his revenge back.

Dibakar is thrilled at the way SHANGHAI has shaped up. “Frankly I have been stunned by the performances from our stars and our character artistes. I can safely say that all preconceived notions that people have about both Abhay and Emraan are going to be shattered by this movie,” avers Dibakar.

The Real Personality Of Emraan Hashmi Is Revealed

The serial kisser of Bollywood Emraan Hashmi may mask a brash and bold guy image and flashes his cool demeanour on-screen, but off screen the actor is altogether a different personality. The reticent actor doesn’t like to mingle too much as he can’t stand hypocrites, unprofessional, loud and obnoxious people.

When we asked the actor about 5 things that irk him, Emraan candidly replied, “I hate hypocrites, unprofessional people, loud and obnoxious people and bad body odour. I also hate when people cut my car while I am driving which is quite unavoidable in Mumbai.”

So if you’re a hardcore Emraan Hashmi fan and if you’re desperately seeking to meet the star and make friendship with him, better avoid the aforesaid things! Source

Top Five Films Of Bollywood in 2011

5) Don 2

Panned by many critics, this film makes it to the list for not only being the first genuinely slick action flick of Bollywood, but also because it brought  back memories of a Shahrukh Khan we didn’t despise. Don 2, despite its slow pacing and rather humdrum plot, worked rather gloriously because the Don himself got to deliver some fun punchlines; wear masks of actors far more good looking than him and romance the girl with the sexiest pout in Asia, Priyanka Chopra. Looking back at the year, this is the only mega hit of 2011 that was actually fun to sit through.

4) Stanley Ka Dabba

This film should be much higher up, if only it wasn’t for the lack of its mainstream elements. Yet, this is a small-scale, simple and spectacular film that works as effectively in providing a refreshing twist to the poor state of children’s cinema in India as it does in tugging at the heartstrings without trying too hard. The Partho kid is rather neat, but his father, director Amole Gupte (the writer of Taare Zameen Par) is the one who takes the cake here. A must-see!

3) Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

This film is in our list because this is, by far, the best looking flick of the year, a tour-guide to Spain that unimpressively breezed through much frivolity and mush before taking off the covers and showing us a heart and a soul. This was mainstream, commercial cinema that had something to say — and while the underlying theme was rather stale — the packaging was pretty damn great. Katrina rode a bike all the way through Barcelona only to give a man a kiss, Hrithik Roshan stood opposite her to complete the fantastic looking pair and Farhan Akhtar rose above the role to truly give a heartfelt performance.

2) The Dirty Picture

First banned and then unbanned in Pakistan, this gutsy film is perhaps the most unforgettable feature film of the year. The rigorously censored version in Pakistani theatres should be given a miss. This one is to be seen at home, late at night when kids and parents have been put to sleep. Revolving around a vulgar little South Indian item girl, The Dirty Picture is far braver an achievement than Delhi Belly — another push-the-envelope feature — simply because it uses a female to forward the theme. And what a female she is! Vidya Balan — a genuine actor revelling in her onscreen glory with such remarkable glee — is the one reason why this film is so high up on this list. Trendsetting stuff!

1) Rockstar

Take a bow, ladies and gentlemen. In a year when Aamir was absent, Hrithik was sleepy, Shahrukh and Salman were busy baking blockbuster recipes; one guy stood up and showed them all who the real daddy of performance is. Ranbir Kapoor and this realistic story of music, love and pain are not stuff that Bollywood is used to. Kapoor is a superstar and a spectacular actor who knows how to pull off both sides of him at the same time.

Emraan Hashmi & Esha Gupta – Generating Heat On The Sets Of Jannat 2

The team of Kunal Deshmukh’s Jannat 2 braved extreme chill to shoot a 6pm to 6am sequence in thick fog at the India Gate on Tuesday. The film’s lead actors Emraan Hashmi and Esha Gupta filmed a romantic song right in front of the monument, which was cordoned off by security and shoot managers, RP

While Hashmi kept warm with a jacket, Esha shot in a sari with a skimpy blouse, and covered herself with a red shawl between shots. The shooting was earlier supposed to be in the daytime but had to be shifted to the night as the security could not manage the crowd that thronged the venue. The team had earlier shot in Old Delhi too.

Emraan Hashmi has been shooting for the Jannat sequel for a month now and describes it as an ‘interesting film’. While Part 1 was an expose on betting in cricket, Part 2 is about illegal trading in arms and ammunition.

“It’s going to be one of the most talked about films of 2012 with superlative performances and a hit music score,” the actor who played a small-time bookie in the original, told HT Cafe. More

Emraan Hashmi’s Selfishnes !

Known as a serial kisser of Bollywood, Emraan Hashmi calls himself a ‘selfish actor’ as he likes to play only protagonist of his films. This made the actor skeptical about signing THE DIRTY PICTURE as it is being touted out-n-out Vidya Balan film.

Emraan confesses, “Yes it’s true the thought of me not being a protagonist and Vidya getting maximum footage did cross my mind while signing the film because generally I like playing the protagonist. Because I am very selfish actor and I don’t like sharing my screen space with anyone.”

So what really transpired and made the actor ultimately take up the project?

“But then I thought come 2nd December and when the film releases people would be watching it and I’ll regret that I wasn’t a part of such a great film. Even though it wasn’t a role as big as MURDER 2 or JANNAT or RAAZ, I want to be part of this film because I kind of like its space, muje iski duniya pasand hai. I wanted to be part of this film and that’s why I did for all those selfish reasons,” reveals Emraan candidly. More

Emraan Hashmi’s Fan Following In Delhi

To measure an actor’s popularity one does not need a popularity check meter. Especially in the case of an actor like Emraan Hashmi, the fans make it a point to tell with their presence what the actor means to them. This is exactly what happened in Delhi recently when Emraan was shooting for the movie JANNAT 2.

It seemed like the whole of the capital was out and about just to get a glimpse of their favourite actor. ‘His popularity has gone up many folds after MURDER-2. What we have witnessed in Delhi is one example of that very fact,’ says filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt.

The popularity has gone up so much that logistically it has become a nightmare of sorts to shoot even a scene in the outdoors with Emraan, without a delay. The shoot of a sequence that used to finish in a day’s time, now takes at least three days to finish because a lot of time goes in managing the crowd. ‘He is like a silent storm. When you take an elephant to Delhi you can’t expect not to have crowd waiting to watch it. The same way, you can’t expect not to have a crowd when Emraan is on the streets shooting,’ says Bhatt. Emraan Hashmi – What Attitude Man!

It could just be a new beginning for Emraan Hashmi if his repertoire over next 12 months is anything to go by. While he is currently shooting for SHANGHAI as well as THE DIRTY PICTURE, he also has DAYAAN, INFORMER, RAAZ 3 and MURDER 3 lined up. With directors like Milan Luthria, Vishal Bhardwaj, Vikram Bhatt and Kunal Deshmukh all set to make films with him, Emraan can well be said to be enjoying all the attention.

“Yeah you can say that,” smiles Emraan, “Moreover I am working with makers with whom I always wanted to be associated with. With Milan I have worked earlier in ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI. Then Dibakar is someone whose work I really love. I am enjoying being a part of his SHANGHAI which is turning out to be an interesting political thriller. These films are bringing me into different zones though not quite taking me away from the kind of audience base that I enjoy. ” More
