Milan Luthria and Ekta Kapoor had woven the magical ‘Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai’ that featured Ajay Devgn and Emraan Hashmi. The filmmakers also garnered applause for Vidya Balan’s ‘The Dirty Picture’. But the hit formula that they had devised seems to have gone awry this time around. ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara’ is nothing but an out and out Akshay Kumar film with nothing more to offer.while not a good film by any stretch of the imagination — a tolerable throwback to the dialogue-laden movies of yore. Things have gotten far worse this time around, with characters talking exclusively in the sort of aphoristic couplets found on auto-rickshaw stickers.
Akshay Kumar makes some of those lines work, but the rest are beyond redemption. What is most upsetting is how the vital lines flounder the most: unrelated inanities pop up throughout, but it is when the script actually demands a line with some heft that there is none to be found. It is as if the writers copy-paste lines from railway station shayari books whenever they can, but at times of actual dramatic punch, nothing fits.
Except, that is, Akshay Kumar. Kumar — despite his preparation for this film consisting merely of picking out the right pair of sunglasses — relishes playing villain. He says as much, too, in a rare good line about how the Hindi film hero only enjoys the final reel where things end happily while the baddie lives it up throughout the film. And so his Shoaib Bhai smokes and slithers and, for some reason, taps chairs repeatedly on the floor till he gets the attention of the room. A dreaded gangster, Shoaib is most impressed by those rare ones who stay impudent to his face — even after learning that those folks have no idea who he is, and seeing them cower like everyone else when apprised of his omnipotence.
Director Milan Luthria opts for a very conventional treatment to this film. The cinematic liberties taken in the film are anything but acceptable. The hide-and-seek game between the police and the dreadful don is quite unrealistic and it goes without saying that it’s total filmy!Pritam has produced a masterpiece in the form of ‘Yeh Tune Kya Kiya’ sung by Javed Bashir. The ‘Taiyyab Ali’ track is a good attempt to revive a vintage hit. But the rest of the songs, though hummable, look unnecessary. Luthria could have done without them thereby keeping the velocity of the film steady.Nonetheless, OUATIMD is a tale of a don who wishes to win over the love of his life! Watch it only for Akshay Kumar.
It seems that after Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, actress Shraddha Kapoor is the current favorite of Karan Johar. That’s the reason the filmmaker has roped the girl in another of his production, where she will be seen doing an item number.
She has been on a roller coaster ride since Aashiqui 2 became a blockbuster. And now, Shraddha Kapoor will be seen in Karan Johar’s Gori Tere Pyaar Mein (GTPM) followed by Mohit Suri’s The Villain.
Recently, the actress was offered to do an item number in Karan Johar’s ‘Ungli’. Emraan Hashmi will also be a part of the song that they are yet to shoot for. Though the news has been spilled out, Shraddha is yet to confirm the same.
“Yes, she is doing an item song for Ungli. We are yet to shoot the song,” sources close to the project said. It is learnt that Emraan Hashmi, who plays the lead in Ungli, will also be a part of this special song.
Shraddha has almost wrapped up her work in Punit Malhotra’s GTPM that also stars Kareena Kapoor and Imran Khan. “Now, she is completely focused on The Villain with Sidharth Malhotra. She isn’t in a hurry to sign films though,” adds the insider.
Actress Vidya Balan was initially sceptical to take up the role of a Punjabi housewife in her forthcoming movie Ghanchakkar. After doing intense roles in The Dirty Picture and Kahaani, Vidya was nervous to step into the unfamiliar territory of a comedy movie with Ghanchakkar.
“When I was offered this role, I thought I could not do it. I am glad my director convinced me. I had fun doing this quirky film. I hope people enjoy it too,” Vidya told reporters here at the audio launch of Ghanchakkar.Actor Emraan Hashmi, who is known as a serial kisser in Bollywood, has decided that he will not talk about the kissing scene in Ghanchakkar as Vidya’s husband Siddharth Roy Kapur is the head of UTV which is producing the film.
“I have promised myself that for this film I will not answer this question. Siddharth, Vidya’s husband, is the head of this production house. If I want to do more films with them, then let’s not talk about it,” Emraan told.
Actress Vidya Balan, who is playing a Punjabi woman for the first time, says she took training to get the Punjabi accent.
After ‘Jannat‘, ‘Tum Mile‘ and ‘Jannat 2, director Kunal Deshmukh is teaming up with Emraan Hashmi one more time for his next project – a thriller. Not only is this their fourth collaboration, it is the first time they are joining hands on a film that is not from the Bhatt stable. The hit pair of actor Emraan Hashmi and director Kunal Deshmukh will team up for a masala entertainer.
“Together Emraan and Kunal are a knockout team…This will be our second film with Emraan post Ghanchakkar… We are confident that this hit actor-director ‘jodi’ will entice the audiences with nothing less than a full-on masala entertainer,” Siddharth Roy Kapur, managing director, Studios, Disney UTV, said in a statement.A source told: “Kunal is in talks with UTV and their discussions are in the final stage, almost.
Emraan, who is currently on vacation with his family, has immense faith in Kunal’s vision and doesn’t really question him. After he returns next month, he will discuss with Kunal and finalise his look with designer Rick Roy. The leading lady is yet to be finalised.”Meanwhile, director Rajkumar Gupta’s Ghanchakkar, which sees Emraan with Vidya Balan again after The Dirty Picture, is coming out June 28.
Writer Shagufta Rafique is in the process of making an action thriller, which will also be her directorial debut. She’s looking forward to cast either Ajay Devgn or Emraan Hashmi.Shagufta started her career as a writer with Bhatt camp production company — Vishesh Films with Woh Lamhe and has been part of the company in the capacity of a dialogue writer and screenplay writer for films like Aawarapan, Raaz 2, Jism 2, Murder 2, Raaz 3, Aashiqui 2 and others.
And now she would be wielding the megaphone.Emraan would be the first obvious choice for Shagufta and has been the poster boy of Bhatt camp.
“He (Emraan) is my first choice for the film. I have told him that I am directing a film and would like to have him in the movie. He is quite ok with it and has asked me to narrate the story. He is not in town… I am waiting for him to come back then will narrate him,” Shagufta said.In case Emraan Hashmi is not selected for the film, Shagufta has Ajay Defgn and Akshay Kumar in her mind.“I want someone who has lot of anger to express on screen. I am also thinking of Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar. I feel they portray anger very well on screen. I haven`t approached them they are just on my wish list. I will approach these three actors. It is a solo hero and heroine film,” she said.“I feel action films do not go well with newcomers.
Audience want to enjoy when their hero beats up the bad guy on big screen. I think love stories always works with newcomers but action-thriller films needs some names, I can’t risk with newcomers,” she said.“My film is an action thriller. The thriller element is backed with a strong love story and action will come whenever it is required. Its a new story, never done in India. It has been liked by the producers and hence I am doing it,” she added.
Emraan Hashmi showed potential in his debut but his reputation as a serial kisser aided by intimate scenes with all his co-stars made more noise instead. Finally, the actor admits, he got ‘tired of kissing on screen’ and wanted to concentrate on meaty roles. The last few years have seen a noteworthy ascent in his acting and choice of roles. With his charismatic delivery in his latest, Ek Thi Daayan, Hashmi proves he has truly arrived. Here’s looking at 10 of his best performances.
The Bollywood horror movie directed by Kannan Iyer features Konkona Sen Sharma, Huma Qureshi and Kalki Koechlin as the leading ladies and was released on Friday. Putting beside the Ek Thi Daayan movie review, Emraan feels that he will be happy if audiences appreciate the performances of the ladies too.
It’s not just the serial kisser image that is synonymous to Emraan Hashmi, but the actor has also been the face of horror series in Bollywood recently. After being a part of the ‘Raaz‘ series, Emraan is set to return to the silver screen with yet another horror film ‘Ek Thi Daayan‘.Ek Thi Daayan, is for all the horror fans.
Emraan Hashmi is back on screen with another horror film and accompanying him this time are three beautiful ladies – Huma Qureshi, Kalki Koechlin and Konkona Sen Sharma.Directed by Kannan Iyer, the film deals with witches, witchcraft and are inspired by folklores. Ek Thi Daayan has been produced jointly by Ekta Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj.
The film is a screen adaptation of Konkona’s father Mukkul Sharma’s story.
Emraan plays the role of a magician in the film and Huma plays his love interest.
“It was great shooting a film with an interesting script. I always had a fascination for supernatural films,” Emraan said in an interview and added that with the film being placed in a “relatable world, with folklore of a witch being played out, is interesting”.”Ek Thi Daayan deals with daayans (witches) which has not been explored much in Indian cinema. It is a different interpretation of horror.
The film is more psychological and at the same time there are a couple of jump-out-of-seat moments. It does not have the cliches of the horror films, in fact it is tasteful horror,” said Emraan during an interview.Taking inspiration from the folklores, ‘Ek Thi Daayan’ brings back the popular notion of witches to the silver screen but at the same time it re-interprets the image of a ‘daayan’.”The folklores always talked about the daayans as old ladies with big bags. However, with ‘Ek Thi Daayan’ we have reinterpreted the image of a ‘daayan’ in film”, adds producer Vishal Bhardwaj.Let’s see whether the film spooks the audience or leaves them disappointed.

While most Bollywood hotties would love to have dolls modelled on them in their gorgeous best, actresses Konkona Sen Sharma, Kalki Koechlin and Huma Qureshi have done just the opposite. The three actresses, who will be seen in an upcoming supernatural thriller that also stars Emraan Hashmi – have lent their faces to dolls that have been modelled to look like daayans.According to insiders, the dolls will be dressed in black robes and will have their feet pointing backwards.
“Initially, when the filmmakers (producers Vishal Bhardwaj, Ekta Kapoor and director Kannan Iyer) came up with the idea of having these evil-looking dolls that would resonate with the theme of their film Ek Thi Daayan, there was no plan to make them look like either of the three actresses. In fact, when the team bounced these ideas to the cast, they were a bit apprehensive about how it will be received and joked that it would be nice to have the faces of their leads for the dolls. But then Konkona, Kalki and Huma sportingly agreed and the idea to make dolls replicating them came about,” shares the insider.
Reportedly, talks are underway between the production house and a leading brand of toy manufacturers to roll out these daayan dolls that will be part of the film’s merchandise. “It will be a unique marketing move, because so far we’ve only had doll replicas of super-heroes here, apart from Katrina, who has a doll modelled on her looks,” adds the insider.
